When is the best time to visit Vietnam?

The ideal time to visit Vietnam is between March and April, when rainfall is minimal and temperatures are more pleasant. However, due to the countries distance spanning over 1600km, the weather varies considerably from the northern regions to the south.

Best time to visit the north (Hanoi, Sapa, Ha Long Bay & Cao Bang)

In northern Vietnam, the best times to visit are from March to April (Spring) and September to November (Autumn), when the weather is typically warm and sunny. The winters tend to be cold and dry (December to February), with overnight temperatures dropping to around 4°C. The summer months, from May to August, tend to be hot, humid and can often be quite unpleasant.

Best time to visit central Vietnam (Da Nang, Hoi An, Hue)

The best time to visit central Vietnam, when tempeartures and the weather is more agreeable are from February to August, with July and August often having sunny days around 30°C. Central Vietnam’s coast often experiences typhoons. Typically, the typhoon season lasts from August to November, with the rainy season tending to end around February.

Best time to visit southern Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh, Can Tho, Nha Trang)

South Vietnam enjoys warm and pleasant temperatures throughout the year, making it a great destination any time. The dry season typically spans from December to May, while the rainy season lasts from June to November. Although flooding can happen, the monsoon season often provides excellent photography opportunities, with dramatic thunderheads over the Mekong Delta and lush, emerald-green rice fields. Travellers could find March to May pretty hard going, as temperatures can soar to around 40°C.
